In 1985 Graham Whittle bought the Whitby Shellfish Company, eventually turning it into one of the UK’s most successful family seafood companies. Today Whitby Seafoods is the number one supplier for food service Scampi and an up and coming retail brand that is inspiring consumers to select its products over the more established brands.
Why We Think We’re Special
Whitby Seafoods is the local seafood specialist that caters for seafood lovers who want that special fresh seaside restaurant experience at home.
It has continued the century old Whitby tradition of catching the freshest fish, combining them with simple ingredients and following closely guarded special recipes.
It’s not just about the recipes though, the Whittle family are committed to a sustainable business and sourcing of the main ingredients, fish and warm water prawns are sourced from sustainable suppliers.
All the scampi used in Whitby Scampi is caught in UK waters by UK fishermen, and of course fishermen from Whitby fishing in the North Sea.

Whitby Seafoods Employs 140 local people and has sales of over £20 million in both catering and retail, and remains privately owned by the Whittle family.
Graham Whittle, the founder, continues to head the business while his daughter Laura deals directly with retailers and wholesalers.
His sons Edward and Daniel are focussed on purchasing only the best natural ingredients and investing in the ever expanding production capabilities to meet the increasing demand for their products.
Our History
Whitby Seafoods Ltd began some 46 years ago when a local fisherman set up the Whitby Shellfish Company based in Larpool Lane in Whitby. The company pioneered the breading of scampi to produce breaded scampi and grew rapidly through the 70's. more...
